Thanks to Incinerate’s generous energy gains, Ho-Oh can finally reasonably access its devastating charge moves and wreak havoc with its nearly unresisted move combination. However, everything changed when Ho-Oh received Incinerate. Even in PvP, Ho-Oh remained unviable for a long time due to its awful fast moves combined with its prohibitively expensive charge moves. Before PvP came about, Ho-Oh was consistently a mediocre raiding choice despite its high stats, and it only got worse as more powerful options got released. The chances of actually seeing the Sacred Fire attack in battle are pretty much nil, but if locked in a battle against a real Ho-Oh or Entei, it's a devastating blow that only strong defenses and protection against Burns can help rectify in most cases (though some evasive tactics might also help in extreme circumstances). For over 3 years, Ho-Oh was considered the butt end of Pokemon GO’s jokes when it comes to iconic legendaries. Strong rocky armor can also help reduce or negate the damage dealt by this attack, but weaker rocky armor is unlikely to perform as well and metallic armor is likely to take exceptional damage from it in most situations. It's certainly unlikely to see this move outside of a rare battle against an actual Ho-Oh or Entei, but there is no denying the tremendous devastation this move is nonetheless capable of inflicting.Ĭountering Sacred Fire: Due to its use of pure fire to inflict damage, the only way to directly counter the Sacred Fire attack is to extinguish the flames used in it before they can inflict damage (though the sheer power of the move means that a lot of water will be needed to do so) exceptionally agile Pokémon can, however, dodge this attack with enough room. Interestingly enough, because of the extreme temperatures experienced in the Sacred Fire attack, the move actually has a 50% chance of Burning anything that manages to survive the initial blow, which is far more than any other Fire-type attack outside of the highly-inaccurate Inferno attack (moreover, it will completely thaw out a Ho-Oh or Entei if it happens to be Frozen upon use). Regardless, the Sacred Fire attack is a devastating strike that can inflict a substantial amount of damage only a bit lower than the traditional Fire Blast attack but at the cost of much less preparation time and thus better accuracy. Strangely enough, Entei possess a similar type of mineral-like construct in their fur and are thus uniquely gifted in being able to wield their own version of this attack. The addition of these crystals to a standard flame results in a complex chemical fuel that not only makes the flame glow a bright white/violet color but also substantially increases the temperature of the flame and uniquely grants it the damaging properties of a physical attack and not a special attack (the exact reason why is still a bit of a mystery, but it may be because the crystals do not completely burn in the flame and thus become an actual component of the attack). The organic, prismatic crystals that naturally occur within the feathers of Ho-Oh are interesting in that they actually burn at a fairly low temperature, generally low enough that Ho-Oh can easily produce them with a considerable amount of stamina. Ho-Oh are completely unique among Fire-types not only for the fact that their Fire-type abilities are due to pyrokinesis alone but also because they are able to utilize their own natural features to deal devastating damage in battle. It might not be the most likely of attacks to see on any given day, but after getting struck by this beautiful attack, there are few opponents that will not be left much worse for the wear afterwards. Considered to be the signature attack of Ho-Oh and Entei, the Sacred Fire attack involves attacking the opposition with a brilliant burst of fire mixed with organic crystals. Magnificent in appearance and absolutely devastating in battle, the Sacred Fire attack is a glorious blow that easily tops the scale of Fire-type attacks as perhaps the most elegant.
